Webinar: The Power of Decodable Texts: Bring the Science of Reading and Joy to Reading
This edWebinar will help you use decodable books to bring the Science of Reading research—and joy—into your classroom. Decodable texts allow children to apply and practice phonics knowledge precisely as they read. The good news is that you can meanwhile support their deep comprehension, talk, knowledge development, and above all, engagement in reading and sense of personal agency. Attend this session to:
· Learn to use screener data and a granular decoding assessment to match kids to decodable texts
· Learn ways to curate a balanced reading diet for K-2 kids
· Get a progression of decoding strategies and some beautiful tools that will make the hard work of decoding playful and fun
· Watch videos of some high-leverage, replicable small groups that will accelerate your readers’ growth
· Learn to write your own decodable books tailored to your children’s passions and their phonics development
· Hear research that informs the use of decodable books
· Discover ways well-written decodable books can support comprehension and vocabulary
This edWebinar will be of interest to K-2 teachers and school and district leaders. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
