Ridgefield-Based Educator Joins Right to Read Advocacy to Empower Dyslexic Learners and Their Families

Ridgefield, Conn. (Sept. 12, 2023) – Ridgefield, Conn. resident and former educator Catherine Scholl has joined Right to Read Advocacy, LLC, a specialized service that supports families and children through the journey of dyslexia diagnosis. As a member and consulting partner, Scholl will be providing special education advocacy services as well as academic evaluations for families in Fairfield County.

“My work is focused on assisting families in navigating the special education process to help ensure that every student receives an equal and quality education that will set them up for academic and personal success,” Scholl said. “I’m pleased to join the Right to Read Advocacy as a member and consulting partner alongside fellow educators and advocates. Together we can reach even more students and families in need of support.”

Scholl brings a unique and personal perspective to educational advocacy rooted in her extensive experience with Special Education, Individual Education Plans (IEP) and 504 processes. As a parent of two students with disabilities, a special education teacher, and an educational advocate, she has “worn the hat” of all team members, allowing her to knowledgeably participate in all sides of the process.

Additionally, her experience in administering academic evaluations to better understand a student’s learning profile will help families who are trying to secure appropriate support services in public education.”

Scholl has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Education. Additionally, she holds multiple certifications, including Students with Disabilities (C-SWD) and Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist + Practitioner (C-SLDI). Scholl is CERI/IDA Certified and holds an Orton Gillingham Teacher Graduate Certification from Fairleigh Dickenson University, which is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC).

As a former special education teacher in the public school system, Scholl served as a case manager to diverse student populations, including those with Specific Learning Disabilities, AD/HD, Speech or Language Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities, and Emotional Disturbances. She specialized in evaluating students suspected of dyslexia and led comprehensive case reviews intending to develop appropriate and actionable IEPs. She has years of experience conducting observations, reviewing records, administering academic evaluations and attending school meetings.

Scholl is trained and certified to administer the academic evaluations necessary to identify strengths and weaknesses in a student's learning profile. She has many years of experience administering complete academic evaluations and offers these services to her advocacy clients.

Scholl is a member of The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. (COPAA) and adheres to COPAA's Advocate Voluntary Code of Ethics.
